Program Guidelines

Overview/History
The Education Foundation of the CCIM Institute has been granting scholarships to deserving students and real estate professionals since 1988.  The Designation Scholarship was created to support qualified real estate professional in their efforts to achieve the CCIM designation. Recipients of this scholarship are CCIM members who exemplify the high caliber of professionals that comprise the CCIM Institute.

Designation scholarships are awarded in the following categories:

  • Cultural diversity/ underserved minority scholarships (2 scholarships annually)
  • Legacy: son/daughter of a CCIM (2 scholarships annually)
  • Open distribution-available to above audiences as well as any CCIM candidate (2 scholarships annually)

Scholarship Value
Recipients will receive enrollment in the following CCIM designation courses: CI102; CI103; CI104; CCR Review (optional for designation, but required for scholarship). In addition, fees for the following designation requirements shall be paid as part of the scholarship: Portfolio of Qualifying Experience processing and Comprehensive Exam. This is valued at $4,190.

Recipients will be reimbursed up to $200/day for hotel, meals, parking, etc. Three courses, five days each = up to $3,000; Review course, two days = up to $400; Exam, one day = up to $200. Maximum possible reimbursement = $3,600. (Expense reports with original receipts required for reimbursement.)

Total scholarship value is up to $7,790.

Procedure
Applicants should send all applications and materials to the Education Foundation. Once accepted, recipients are responsible for registering for each class and making their own travel arrangements.

Recipient Eligibility

  • Must have successfully completed CCIM C101 course between January 1, 2007 - August 15, 2008
  • Must be a Candidate Member of the CCIM Institute
  • Must be a member of a CCIM Chapter (if living in an area served by a chapter)
  • Must be pursuing a career in commercial real estate
  • Previous practical experience in the field (internship or job)
  • Completed scholarship application and supporting materials.

Scholarship recipients will be responsible for reimbursing the Foundation for the full cost of a failed course; failing a course renders the scholarship null and void.

Recipients must complete their course of study within two years of the scholarship award and take the exam/complete resume requirements within two years of completing C104. Recipients must submit a proposed course schedule to the Education Foundation and keep the Foundation informed of course progress.

If a selected applicant successfully completes one of the CI courses between the application deadline and date of notification, he/she is eligible to be reimbursed for the cost of the course and receive the travel stipend.

Selection Criteria
The selection shall primarily be based on merit, including the following factors:

  • Commitment to a commercial real estate career
  • Involvement with CCIM chapter, other real estate/professional organizations, and civic/community groups
  • Communication skills
  • History of employment
  • Two professional letters of recommendation, written specifically about this scholarship; one of these letters must be from a current CCIM
  • Completed Instructor Questionnaire

A Scholarship Selection Committee, appointed by the Board of Directors of the Education Foundation, will make the final scholarship selections based on the above criteria. Interviews with applicants may be conducted via phone or in person.

Recipient Notification
The Education Foundation will notify all applicants of selection results by September 30.

Award Made
Award is ongoing. Travel reimbursement checks will be sent to recipients after submittal and approval of expense report and original receipts upon successful completion of each course, review, and the exam. The CCIM Institute is reimbursed directly for course, portfolio, and exam fees.
