University Scholarships


Overview/History
The Education Foundation of the CCIM Institute has been granting University Scholarships since 1988. The purpose of the University Scholarship Program is to encourage and assist students desiring a career in real estate and to promote high educational standards. This program enables commendable university students majoring in real estate to experience the CCIM Institute's education first hand. A list of approved schools participating in the program is below.

Scholarship Value
Cash award of $1,000 plus a voucher for tuition for a CCIM Institute CI 101 course.

Applications Available
Applications will be sent to universities (with copies to chapter liaisons) on October 15, 2008. Click here for a copy of the application.

Procedure
Students submit all applications and materials to the University liaison. University liaisons forward their top 2-3 selections to the Chapter liaison. Chapter liaisons submit one final candidate to Education Foundation.

Deadline for Submission to Chapters
Top 2-3 candidates submitted to chapter by November 14, 2008.

Deadline for Submission to Foundation
Final candidate information, including Recipient Profile Form, is due to the Education Foundation by November 28, 2008.

Chapter Requirements
Select scholarship recipients that enhance the visibility and significance of the scholarship. Chapters should:

  • Assign a Foundation liaison to be the primary point of contact with the Education Foundation and the scholarship committee.
  • Present the scholarship at a regular chapter function.
  • Invite scholarship recipient to attend chapter programs for a year at no cost (to the extent this is financially feasible for the chapter).
  • Assign a mentor for each scholarship recipient: Provide career advice, Help with job/internship placement, Guide recipient through CCIM designee process

Chapter must provide a completed Recipient Profile Form, including all back-up documentation, to the Education Foundation prior to award being made. After award is made, provide photos and summary of presentation.

Recipient Eligibility

  • Must be enrolled or accepted for admission upon commencement of the Fall semester, as a full or part-time student at one of the selected schools
  • Be of junior, senior or graduate standing; Be pursuing a career in commercial investment real estate or an allied industry
  • Minimum B/3.0 average in major
  • Practical experience in the field (internship or job)
  • Noteworthy accomplishments (can be related to studies, community service, etc.)
  • Written statement about career goals, importance of the scholarship, etc.
  • Completed scholarship application and supporting materials

Selection Criteria
The selection shall primarily be based on merit, including the following factors:

  • Favorable academic record
  • Commitment to a real estate or allied industry career
  • Communication skills
  • Extracurricular activities
  • History of employment
  • Personal and professional references

Recipient Notification
The Education Foundation will notify successful applicants by December 15, 2008.

Award Made
Scholarship checks will be sent to chapters for distribution to recipients on December 15, 2008. Check will be made out to the student and university. Additionally, the voucher for CI course tuition will be sent. The actual cost for the voucher will be paid directly to the CCIM Institute.
